Join author James Nicolas as he discusses his latest book “Unity, Nationality, Benevolence: The Victorian History of the Irish National Foresters Friendly Society” and the society’s strong links to North and West Melbourne.
The INF commenced in Melbourne in 1886 before expanding around Australia. It was a rallying point for Irish Australians, providing both a social network of cultural activities and financial and medical support.
James will lead us through the INF’s impact on the Irish diaspora of North and West Melbourne ; a chapter in our history that is well worth remembering.
Located in the Hotham Room, upstairs at the North Melbourne Library. Copies of James’ book will be available for sale on the night
