Talk by Ian Shears – Greening Melbourne.
Melbourne’s urban forest includes approximately 20,000 trees in the private realm. These trees help keep our landscape resilient, our city liveable and sustainable and maintain Melbourne’s character and heritage. City of Melbourne’s Exceptional Tree Register was adopted by Council in 2012. It enables us to recognise, celebrate and protect the exceptional trees that exist on privately owned or managed land in our city. You can learn about the trees on the register via our interactive map, or download the 2012 register (PDF 1.44 MB). City of Melbourne now wishes to review and expand this register with a second round of nominations currently underway.
Melbourne Council are now accepting nominations for the Exceptional Tree Register, until 15 March 2019.
Nominations are limited to trees on private land only. Nominations for trees on City of Melbourne managed land will not be considered, as this register aims to protect and value trees on private land. Anyone can nominate a tree, even if the tree is not on your property.
