Hotham History Project invites you along to hear Lachlan Welsh, former Miegunyah Student Project Award 2021 recipient, present his paper on the Benevolent Asylum.

Lachlan Welsh is a recent graduate of architecture at the University of Melbourne. A couple of years ago, he participated in a program run by the Ian Potter Museum which asked students to complete a research project on an artwork from their Miegunyah Collection (of Sir Russell and Mab Grimwade).

Lachlan spent his time researching the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum, of which he found Mary Kehoe’s book from HHP was incredibly helpful.

In February 2022, there was an exhibition of Lachlan’s work at the Grainger Museum. At that event he exhibited some artworks he made based on his own 2D digital reconstruction of the Benevolent Asylum, and he gave a public lecture on its history.

Lachlan has kindly offered to present and show the two major artworks he created for that project to members and friends of Hotham History Project.

16th July 7:15pm for a 7:30pm start. Hotham Room North Melbourne Library.

Seating is strictly limited to only 25 people. Tickets go on sale Sunday 7th July.
